Who are we?
It was 1999 when Greater Europe Mission (GEM) first began investigating the use of technology for training pastors in Europe. To better address the great need for biblical education in Europe, a Distance Learning department was established in 2000. As they continued to seek to provide local churches throughout Europe with relevant training and outreach tools, the Distance Learning department was expanded and a separate ministry, known as eDOT ministry (electronic Discipleship, Outreach, and Training) was formed.
As we began this work, it quickly became evident that if we were to reach into Eastern Europe, we would need to provide the churches with computers in these former Soviet Union countries. The concept of eLearning Centers was developed and implemented with one of our partners, Mission Aviation Fellowship.
Although our European partners and our distance learning programs are spread out across Europe, our short-term missions teams and the installation of eLearning Centers (eLCs) are currently focused in Eastern Europe. Our vision is to establish eLCs in many major cities or regions of the former Soviet Union. We have already installed 17 eLearning Centers at churches throughout Ukraine and 5 in Romania. At present, we are planning the installation of another 33 centers in Ukraine. Eventually we hope to expand into other former Soviet Union countries.
Our vision has been and remains to develop and implement technology-based, interactive learning opportunities and outreach tools that will assist the church in reaching greater Europe for Christ.
